Properly deigned “Solid Stellar Energy”(SSE) electrical energy source can provide electrical energy for either short or long ranges aircrafts.
Power Consumption for a Round-Trip Flight from New York to Shanghai: Total jet fuel consumed (one-way): ~45,000 liters (11,890 gallons) or about 12.5 MWh of energy (if converted to energy content). Electrical power consumption (one round-trip): ~2,800 kWh for onboard systems (lighting, avionics, HVAC, entertainment, etc.). Total energy consumed will be: 12.5*2+2.8=27.8 MW/h
With a meter of molecular deuterium to react with our SSE reactor, we would make 474.8 times more than above one round flight of carbon dioxide-emission free trip.
